THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF KARAGIOZIS

 

Like any folk art, so the Shadow Theatre presents aspects typical Greek expressions that have a particular value.

The popular arts spread to all areas of our lives.

Karagkiozis is the protagonist of Shadow Theatre.

The history of this figure and the others have their roots many years ago that people remember them much older than me.

Karagkiozis appeared as Shadow for the first time in Turkey.

He was a well-dressed gentleman, kapelomenos, kalopapoutsomenos rather makrycheris.

Unlike the Shadows of Greece, which is a little man hunchback, makrycheris, barefoot and poor.

He was the little man at the time he was carrying on his hump all the hardships and sufferings of the people during the 400 years of Ottoman rule.

In continuous modernized and continues his fight against injustice. The hump is growing, as more and more loaded the pain and sorrow of his people.

The quote is Turkish Karagiozis which in Greek means Mavromatis but if you did generations to laugh, not laugh about his dark eyes ....
